India men’s Kho Kho team wins inaugural World Cup with 54-36 victory over Nepal

India's men's Kho Kho team triumphed in the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup, securing a commanding 54-36 victory over Nepal in the final on Sunday. The match, played at a high intensity, showcased India's well-coordinated attack and defense. Captain Pratik Waikar and standout player Ramji Kashyap led the team’s efforts, with both players playing pivotal roles in securing the win for India.

The final began with India taking the first attack. Ramji Kashyap executed a brilliant sky dive to capture Nepal’s Suraj Pujara, setting the tone for the match. Shortly after, Suyash Gargate touched Bharat Sahu, adding another 10 points to India’s tally within the first four minutes. The Indian team’s skydiving strategy was effective, allowing them to take a commanding 26-0 lead by the end of Turn 1. Nepal struggled to find a foothold in the match during this period, as India’s defense prevented them from launching a successful Dream Run.

In Turn 2, Nepal improved its defense and was able to stop India from executing a Dream Run. Despite this, India maintained control of the match. Nepal’s Janak Chand and Suraj Pujara managed some successful touches, but India’s defense, led by Waikar and Aditya Ganpule, ensured the lead remained at 26-18 at halftime. India’s ability to neutralize Nepal’s attacks and maintain possession contributed to their continued dominance.

Turn 3 saw India further extend their lead. Captain Waikar executed multiple skydives, supported by Kashyap’s consistency in attack. Aditya Ganpule also played a significant role in advancing the score. By the end of Turn 3, India had stretched their lead to 54-18, effectively sealing the win. Nepal, despite their best efforts, found it increasingly difficult to break through India’s defense as the match neared its conclusion.

In the final turn, Nepal fought to close the gap but struggled against India’s strong defense, led by Waikar and Sachin Bhargo, with important contributions from Mehul and Suman Barman. India’s defensive line held firm, denying Nepal any opportunity to stage a comeback. The final score of 54-36 secured India’s victory and their place in Kho Kho history as the inaugural World Cup champions.

India’s journey to the championship included victories over Brazil, Peru, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and South Africa. The team’s dominant performances throughout the tournament demonstrated their skill and consistency, culminating in a decisive victory in the final. The Kho Kho World Cup, with its global audience and international teams, marked a significant milestone in the sport’s journey, setting the stage for future growth and recognition. The event was attended by key dignitaries, including Former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, Supreme Court Judge Pankaj Mithal, Minister Kiren Rijiju, and other notable figures, emphasizing the growing importance of Kho Kho on the global sporting stage.
