PM Modi interacts with IAF’s Shubhanshu Shukla; First Indian aboard ISS for 14-day space mission
A resident of Sonupur village in Samastipur district, Bihar, has filed a legal complaint against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, claiming that the leader’s remarks during a public speech caused him to suffer a financial loss. Mukesh Chaudhary, the complainant, states that after hearing Gandhi’s comments, he dropped a bucket of milk, resulting in a loss of ₹250. Chaudhary claims that the bucket, which contained five litres of milk, was valued at ₹50 per litre.
The incident occurred following a speech by Rahul Gandhi on January 15, 2025, during the inauguration of the Congress party’s new headquarters in New Delhi. Gandhi criticized the BJP and RSS, stating, “We are now fighting the BJP, the RSS, and the Indian state itself.” Chaudhary alleges that this statement, which he described as threatening the sovereignty of the nation, left him in a state of shock, leading to the milk bucket slipping from his hand.
In his petition, Chaudhary has requested the civil court in Rosera sub-division, Bihar, to initiate legal proceedings against Rahul Gandhi under Section 152 of the Bihar Penal Code (BNS). This section addresses acts that disturb public order, and Chaudhary has invoked it in connection with Gandhi’s alleged sedition. He claims that Gandhi’s remarks undermined national sovereignty and caused direct financial harm to him.
Chaudhary’s legal complaint follows a similar trend of legal actions initiated against Gandhi for his controversial remarks. An FIR was registered against him in Assam, where charges were framed under sections 152 and 197(1)d of the Indian Penal Code, which deal with actions endangering the country’s sovereignty and integrity. These cases are part of ongoing legal scrutiny of Gandhi’s speech, which criticized the current Indian political leadership and its control over institutions.
The civil court in Rosera has yet to confirm whether Chaudhary’s petition will be admitted for trial. The court has not provided any official statement on whether the case will proceed or be dismissed. Chaudhary’s complaint, while unique in its personal nature, is one of several legal actions tied to Gandhi’s remarks, reflecting the political and legal ramifications of his comments about the Indian state, the BJP, and the RSS.
Chaudhary’s petition seeks redress for the alleged shock he suffered from Gandhi’s speech, which he claims led to the financial loss of the milk. This case adds to the broader political discourse, where Gandhi’s remarks have drawn significant criticism for their potential implications on national unity and sovereignty. The legal proceedings, particularly in Bihar, are being closely monitored as they could set a precedent for future cases involving public statements by political leaders. As of now, the status of the case remains uncertain, with no official decision from the court on whether the complaint will be processed.
