South Bengal gets new rail connectivity: Purulia-Bankura-Howrah MEMU service inaugurated today
The Cyber Crime Wing of the State Police arrested 15 individuals, including three women, for allegedly operating a large-scale fraudulent technical support scam targeting US citizens. The arrests followed a raid at two locations: the Extra Tower in New Town and the Abacus Building of the PS Group. The scam involved fraudsters impersonating legitimate tech support services to trick US citizens into revealing sensitive personal and financial information.
As part of the operation, law enforcement officials seized 62 laptops, 41 mobile phones, and several other electronic devices. These items are believed to have been used in executing the fraud. The suspects are accused of contacting victims in the US through unsolicited calls and emails, offering fake technical assistance to gain access to their private details. Authorities are investigating the methods and technology behind the scam to understand how the fraud was carried out and identify its scope.
The investigation is ongoing, with officers examining the suspects' connections to other individuals or organizations involved in similar fraudulent activities. While the identities of the arrested individuals have not been fully disclosed, the police are working to trace the broader network behind the operation. The authorities have warned the public to be cautious of unsolicited calls or messages offering technical support and to verify the legitimacy of such offers before taking action.
