Major crime averted as 5 men from UP arrested with weapons near Kolkata's Surendranath College

Five individuals from Uttar Pradesh were arrested by Kolkata Police near Surendra Nath Women’s College on M.G. Road, Muchipara Police Station area, on the basis of specific intelligence inputs regarding a planned crime. The arrests took place on the road in front of the college, where the suspects were detained and searched. During the search, police recovered two firearms and 15 rounds of live ammunition from their possession.

The firearms seized included one 7mm semi-automatic pistol and one single-shot weapon. Additionally, the police found 15 rounds of live ammunition—10 rounds of 7.65mm caliber and 5 rounds for the single-shot firearm. The firearms and ammunition were immediately confiscated by the Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police, which is handling the case.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Shivshankar Yadav (26), son of Babban Yadav, from Marukha, Haldharpur Police Station, Uttar Pradesh; Rahul Yadav (27), son of Mahesh Yadav, from Bhudkura, Gazipur, and Shivdaspur, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh; Aditya Maurya (20), son of Ramkripal Maurya, from Alinagar, Saray Lakhansi, Uttar Pradesh; Devank Gupta (24), son of Mahesh Gupta, from Radhapuram, Kalyanpur, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh; and Rukesh Sahani (30), son of Dinanath Sahani, from Awara Kol, Pali, Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. Their personal details, including addresses and identification, have been confirmed by authorities.

A case has been filed at the STF Police Station under relevant sections of the law, and the five arrested individuals will be presented in court today. Police are conducting further investigations to determine the suspects' specific plans and to explore any possible criminal networks or activities they may have been involved in.
