Kolkata Police resolves kidnapping in 8 hours, rescues insurance employee and arrests 3 culprits

Kaushik Lahiri, an employee of a private life insurance company, was abducted on January 26 while en route to Purulia for work. The kidnappers made contact with Lahiri’s wife, Suchismita Lahiri, and demanded a ransom of Rs.14 lakh. In response, Suchismita transferred Rs.50,000 to the abductors' account. Despite receiving the initial payment, the kidnappers continued to threaten the family and demanded more money.

On January 29, Suchismita filed a formal complaint with the Rabindra Sarobar Police Station, reporting the abduction and ransom demands. Police immediately initiated an investigation, tracking the kidnappers’ communications and tracing the location where Kaushik was being held. The police discovered that Kaushik was being kept in the Habra area.

A joint operation was launched by Kolkata Police in coordination with Habra Police. A raid was conducted on a house in the area, leading to the successful rescue of Kaushik Lahiri. Two suspects, identified as Charur Ahmed Baidya and Mithun Baidya, were arrested at the scene. Both individuals were brought to Kolkata for further interrogation.

The police investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of the criminal activity. Authorities are examining the possibility of other individuals being involved in the kidnapping, including any connections the suspects may have with organized crime. Police are continuing to gather evidence and conduct interrogations to understand the motive behind the kidnapping and whether there was any prior planning involved. The investigation is being treated with high priority, and further legal proceedings will follow based on the results.
