Saraswati Puja at Nagarukhra Daskuldanga Primary School in Nadia district took place under heightened security measures after threats were made against holding the event. A local youth issued the threats to the school’s headmaster, warning that the puja should not be conducted due to the school’s proximity to a mosque. The threat led to increased concerns about the safety of the puja, a long-standing tradition at the school.
In response to the situation, Harinbhata Police Station deployed a large police force, including armed personnel, to ensure the event could be held without any disturbances. The authorities also imposed restrictions, barring parents from entering the school premises during the event. Harinbhata BDO Mahorshita Biswas visited the school to oversee the security arrangements, stating that the administration’s primary responsibility was to provide safety and ensure the smooth conduct of the puja. Biswas confirmed that the tensions surrounding the situation had been addressed, allowing the puja to proceed.
The incident has drawn reactions from local residents. Sudip Sarkar, a resident of the area, expressed concern over the necessity of police involvement for a cultural event that had been celebrated at the school for many years. He noted that the heavy security presence was unsettling for the students and community. Despite the security measures, the Saraswati Puja was conducted without any major disruptions, with authorities continuing to monitor the situation throughout the day.
