A bizarre and tense incident unfolded in Lidhorataal village, situated 45 kilometers from the Tikamgarh district headquarters in Madhya Pradesh, following the death of 84-year-old Dhyani Singh Ghosh. Ghosh, who had been suffering from a prolonged illness, passed away on Sunday. The incident involved a dispute between his two sons over who would perform his last rites.
According to police, Kishan Singh, the elder son, who resided outside the village, arrived after hearing about his father's death. Upon his arrival, Kishan insisted on performing the final rites. However, the younger son, Deshraj, who had been living with their father, claimed that it was their father’s wish for him to carry out the cremation.
The disagreement escalated when Kishan, reportedly intoxicated at the time, proposed a shocking solution: he demanded that their father’s body be divided in half, so each brother could perform a separate cremation. This unusual demand led to heightened tension between the siblings, prompting villagers to contact local authorities for assistance.
Police from Jatara police station, led by in-charge Arvind Singh Dangi, responded promptly to the distress call. Upon arriving at the scene, the officers intervened and managed to convince Kishan to leave the village. The younger son, Deshraj, was then allowed to proceed with the cremation as originally intended.
The situation was defused without further incident, and the cremation took place as planned. The authorities' quick action prevented further escalation of the conflict. The police ensured that the final rituals were completed without additional disruption or violence.
