Ankita Chakraborty, a 23-year-old resident of 4, Pramanick Ghat Lane, Cossipore, filed a formal complaint at the Cossipore Police Station against her former partner, Amit Chakraborty (27), accusing him of harassment and assault. According to the complaint, Ankita and Amit had been in a relationship for 4-5 years, but they had cut off their ties about a year ago. However, despite the end of their relationship, Ankita stated that Amit continued to contact her from various phone numbers, using abusive language. She also alleged that Amit had shared their old photos with her acquaintances without her permission.
On the afternoon of the same day, Amit allegedly visited Ankita’s house. When Ankita stepped outside, Amit confronted her and used foul language towards her. Ankita stated that he then physically grabbed her arms in an inappropriate manner. In response to her screams, Ankita’s elder brother, Chandan Chakraborty, arrived at the scene to protect her. According to Ankita’s complaint, Amit then pulled out a sharp metallic object, later identified as a Kathari, and a knife from his bag. He reportedly brandished the weapons in front of both Ankita and Chandan and threatened them with dire consequences.
Following Ankita's complaint, the Cossipore Police registered a case under multiple sections: Section 74, 78, and 79 of the BNS Act, Section 351(3) of the Indian Penal Code, and Section 25(1B)(a) of the Arms Act. Amit Chakraborty was arrested on the same day, and an investigation into the matter is ongoing. Police are examining the details of the incident, including the use of weapons and the continued harassment over the past year. Further legal proceedings will follow as the investigation progresses.
