Man smuggling 22 kg marijuana from Coromandel Express arrested near Howrah station

The Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested a 42-year-old passenger at Howrah's Shalimar Station, seizing 22 kilograms of marijuana from him. The arrested individual, identified as Prashant Kumar from Berhampur, Odisha, was traveling aboard the South Down Coromandel Express. GRP officials acted on a tip-off that marijuana was being smuggled on the train, leading to a swift raid at Shalimar Station.

As the train arrived, Kumar attempted to conceal the narcotics by covering his body, but the GRP team swiftly detained him and conducted a search. The marijuana was found packed in several packets, confirming the tip-off provided to the authorities. The total weight of the seized drugs amounted to approximately 22 kilograms.

Prashant Kumar was reportedly headed to deliver the marijuana to a recipient in Kolkata’s Sealdah area. After his arrest, he was taken to court and charged with carrying banned substances. The GRP’s operation underscores their continued efforts to combat drug trafficking through the Indian railway network.
