Two children, a 6-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl, were found abandoned early this morning outside the CGO Complex in Kolkata. The children, who appeared to be searching for something, were spotted by early morning walkers. The walkers noticed the children’s distressed behavior and approached them. The children were unable to give clear or satisfactory answers when asked about their situation, who they were with, or their names. The walkers, concerned for their safety, informed the local police.
Upon receiving the alert, police officers from the North Police Station responded promptly and rescued the children. They were taken to the police station for questioning. During the inquiry, the children disclosed that their mother had brought them to the CGO Complex, instructed them to wait while she went to buy food, and then left without returning. The children claimed they had been left there alone, hungry, and cold, without anyone to help them.
The children mentioned that they lived in a rented house in the Tollygunge area with their mother. They could not provide specific details about their home address. Based on their statements, the police believe the family may be from East Medinipur, although this has not been confirmed. The authorities are in the process of tracing the children’s family and have been checking nearby police stations for any missing persons reports related to the children’s whereabouts.
While the police were investigating, a local woman who owns a nearby tea shop provided the children with shelter. She stated that around 9 AM, the children's mother had asked her to look after them while she went to buy food. However, by 11 PM, the woman noticed the children were still sitting outside, without any food. The woman took the children into her shop and kept them safe until the police arrived to rescue them. She added that she was unable to provide them with any food.
The police have now launched an investigation to locate the children’s mother. They are working to verify the information the children provided regarding their home and family. In the meantime, the authorities are coordinating with nearby police stations to determine if any missing persons reports have been filed. The children’s ages were confirmed to be 6 and 9, and their identities are currently being kept confidential as the investigation continues.
