A four-month pregnant woman was thrown off a moving train in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore district after resisting an alleged sexual assault. The incident occurred around 10:30 am on Thursday aboard the Coimbatore-Tirupati Intercity Express while she was traveling from Tiruppur to Chittoor. The accused, identified as 27-year-old Hemaraj, boarded the ladies’ coach at Jolarpettai Railway Station after other female passengers had deboarded.
Officials stated that the victim boarded the train at 6:40 am with an unreserved ticket and was seated in the ladies' coach, where at least seven other women were present. When the train reached Jolarpettai at around 10:15 am, all the other women deboarded, leaving her alone. The accused entered the coach and remained seated for some time before allegedly attempting to sexually assault her.
According to the survivor’s statement, when she resisted, the accused became violent. She tried to pull the emergency chain, but he restrained her and assaulted her. As she attempted to lock herself in the compartment bathroom, he dragged her to the train door, physically attacked her, and broke her hand. Despite her struggle, he overpowered her and pushed her out of the moving train. She lost consciousness upon falling and sustained severe injuries to her head, hands, legs, and hip.
Railway officials and local authorities were alerted after the woman was found injured near the railway tracks. She was taken to Vellore Government Hospital for medical treatment. Based on her statement, a case was registered, and the Railway Police arrested the accused. Officials confirmed that Hemaraj is a habitual offender with previous cases of murder and robbery against him. He had also been involved in a similar offense earlier.
The survivor, recalling the attack, stated, "I fought for nearly 30 minutes. No other woman should face what I faced. Please punish him. Don't let this psycho out." Police are reviewing CCTV footage from railway stations along the route to gather additional evidence. The accused remains in custody, and further investigations are underway.
