Legendary actor & filmmaker Manoj Kumar passes away at the age of 87
The South Kolkata District Congress held a protest at Hazra More over the deportation of 104 Indian nationals from the United States. The deportees were reportedly handcuffed, shackled, and flown back to India on a US military aircraft that landed in Amritsar. Protesters raised concerns over the treatment of the deportees and questioned the Indian government’s response to the situation.
According to reports, the US deported the individuals following immigration violations. Other countries, including Colombia, arranged for their citizens to be repatriated on civilian aircraft, while Indian nationals were transported on a military plane. The protestors questioned why India did not make similar arrangements and demanded clarity on the government’s diplomatic efforts in the matter.
Protesters also raised concerns about the landing of a US military aircraft in Amritsar, seeking details on whether the Indian government had granted prior clearance. “The fact that a US military aircraft entered Indian airspace and landed in Amritsar requires an explanation,” said Pradip Prasad, South Kolkata District Congress President. They demanded a statement from the External Affairs Ministry on whether diplomatic channels were used to ensure a dignified return for the deportees.
