Suvendu terms Mamata's remarks as threat, says will approach Home Ministry | Watch

A major political controversy has erupted over a statement made by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the Assembly. Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, has termed her remarks as a "threat" and has announced plans to file a complaint with the Union Home Ministry. Meanwhile, BJP leader and Calcutta High Court lawyer Kaustav Bagchi has written to Governor Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose, urging him to intervene in the matter.

On Tuesday, while speaking in the Assembly, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee targeted Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, stating, "You are making excessive remarks against a particular community. If they ever rise in protest, will you be able to handle it?"

BJP leader Kaustav Bagchi posted a video of this statement on his social media account, questioning, "Is the Chief Minister issuing a threat to the Leader of the Opposition on behalf of extremists?" Following this, he sent a letter to the Governor, demanding his intervention.

Reacting strongly to the Chief Minister’s statement, Suvendu Adhikari said, "The Chief Minister is saying that if a particular community unites against me, what will happen? I will report this statement, along with the video clip, to the Union Home Ministry. I have been provided security following an order from the Calcutta High Court. I will also approach the High Court and demand that the Chief Minister be restrained from making such provocative statements."

Amidst this controversy, Suvendu Adhikari and three other BJP MLAs were suspended from the Assembly for a month on Monday due to allegedly "unparliamentary conduct." Reacting to his suspension, Adhikari stated, "I was suspended because I belong to the BJP. When the Left Front or Congress were in opposition, this never happened."
