TMC leader gets threat call allegedly from ‘D company’; ₹20 lakh extortion demand | Watch

Englishbazar Municipality Chairman and former state minister Krishnendu Narayan Choudhury has allegedly received a death threat from an unknown caller demanding ₹20 lakh. The caller, identifying themselves as being from ‘D Company,’ warned of serious consequences if the payment was not made. Choudhury has lodged a complaint at Englishbazar police station, and an investigation has been launched.

According to Choudhury, the threat was initially sent via multiple text messages, which he did not check immediately. Later, he received a direct phone call where the caller allegedly stated, "Send 20 peti or you and your family will be shot." A voice recording of the call has surfaced, but its authenticity has not been officially verified.

Police officials have begun tracing the call details and analyzing the messages to determine the source of the threat. The cybercrime unit has been engaged to track digital footprints, and authorities are examining whether the number used for the call was masked or linked to any criminal networks. Security around Choudhury has been increased following the complaint.

Investigators are also looking into any potential motives behind the extortion attempt, including whether it is linked to political, financial, or personal reasons. Officials are verifying if Choudhury was specifically targeted or if similar threats have been issued to others in the region. No arrests have been made so far, and police have not disclosed further details on the investigation.

Authorities have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward as the probe continues. Law enforcement officials are coordinating with higher authorities to assess potential links to organized crime. Choudhury has stated that he has provided all necessary details to the police, and further updates on the case are expected as the investigation progresses.
