Heavy rain, thunderstorms & strong winds expected across Bengal this weekend | Watch

The Alipore Meteorological Department has issued a weather warning for several parts of Bengal, forecasting heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds over the weekend. The weather system is influenced by cyclonic circulation over Haryana and Nagaland, combined with the active western disturbance in eastern India. These systems are expected to continue affecting the region, with widespread impacts anticipated in the coming days. On Monday, scattered rainfall is also expected in certain areas.

According to the forecast, southern districts of Bengal, including Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, and the surrounding areas, will experience the brunt of the weather disturbances. Rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and winds of 40-50 km/h are expected to affect the region, particularly on Saturday. There is also a possibility of hailstorms in some areas. These severe weather conditions are predicted to cause disruptions in daily activities and could lead to localized flooding in affected regions.

Other parts of Bengal, including North 24 Parganas, West Medinipur, Nadia, and Bankura, are also expected to witness heavy rainfall and strong winds. In contrast, lighter rainfall is forecasted in areas like Kolkata, Howrah, and other surrounding districts. Despite the widespread effects, the situation is expected to ease in the coming days, with rain likely to subside by Monday.

In North Bengal, dense fog is anticipated, especially in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and Malda. The fog could reduce visibility significantly and disrupt transportation. Additionally, the higher elevations of Darjeeling are expected to experience light snowfall until Monday, adding to the complexity of weather conditions in the region. The foggy conditions are expected to persist throughout the weekend, affecting both local and long-distance travel.

The weather department has warned the public to stay alert and follow safety protocols, especially in southern districts, where the risk of thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds is higher. Temperature drops due to rain are also expected, bringing a noticeable chill across the state. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and will issue further updates as the weather develops.
