A 27-year-old woman from Chandannagar, Suchandra Chattopadhyay, died in a road accident on National Highway 19 near Panagarh after her car was allegedly chased and rammed twice by another vehicle late Sunday night. She was traveling to Gaya with three colleagues when the incident occurred. According to the driver, their vehicle was followed from a petrol pump in Budbud by another car with five occupants, who allegedly passed lewd remarks at the woman before repeatedly hitting their vehicle, causing it to overturn.
Police sources confirm that the accident took place around 12:30 AM, and Suchandra was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. The Kanksa police have seized both vehicles involved in the crash. However, the accused are currently absconding. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the petrol pump and surrounding areas and tracking mobile tower data to identify and locate the suspects.
This incident has raised concerns over highway security and the safety of travelers, particularly at night. Authorities have initiated a probe to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the crash. Law enforcement is also examining whether additional charges related to harassment and reckless endangerment will be applied in the case.
