West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced a series of financial incentives for doctors and medical institutions. Each medical college in the state will receive ₹2 crore for cultural activities and competitions. Additionally, stipends for postgraduate trainees, house staff, and interns have been increased by ₹10,000, while senior doctors will receive a salary hike of ₹15,000. These measures aim to improve financial support for medical professionals.
The service area limit for doctors has been extended from 20 km to 30 km, allowing medical professionals to cover a larger region. The state government has also revoked the suspension of junior doctors involved in the Medinipur incident. This decision follows ongoing discussions regarding healthcare policies and the working conditions of medical professionals in the state.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee urged doctors to remain in Bengal, addressing concerns over professionals moving abroad. "If any doctor faces an issue, come to me, but do not leave Bengal," she stated. She emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting healthcare workers and improving medical infrastructure.
