Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) engineers staged a protest at the civic body’s main gate today, demanding the implementation of a High Court order regarding their long-pending promotions. The Kolkata Municipal Corporation Engineers' Service Association alleged that despite the court’s directive, promotions have been stalled for over three and a half years. The engineers claimed that repeated deputations to Mayor Firhad Hakim yielded no response, forcing them to organize the demonstration.
The protesting engineers accused the RR Committee’s 15 senior-most officials of inaction, alleging that all municipal engineers have been affected due to administrative delays. They stated that the delay has hindered career advancements and created dissatisfaction among employees. The association emphasized that engineers have been fulfilling their responsibilities without promotion, despite meeting all eligibility criteria.
Protesters warned that if their demands are not met, they will escalate their movement in the coming days. They urged immediate action to process pending promotions and ensure that court directives are followed without further delays. The association highlighted that a resolution is necessary to maintain fairness in the system and address grievances that have been ignored for years.
