A boiler pump exploded while a family was boiling rice in Uttar Angadberia village under Canning Police Station on Wednesday morning, leaving four people severely injured. The victims, including two women, suffered burns as boiling water from the blast splashed onto their bodies and faces. Among them, Pallavi Kayal sustained critical injuries and was transferred to a hospital in Kolkata for advanced treatment. The remaining injured were admitted to Canning Sub-Divisional Hospital.
According to Bharat Kayal, one of the injured, five family members were boiling rice when the pump suddenly burst due to excessive heat, causing a severe blast. "The hot water shower pump exploded suddenly," he said. Local residents quickly responded, rescuing the victims and arranging immediate medical assistance. The exact cause of the explosion remains under investigation, with authorities examining possible mechanical failure or overheating.
The incident has raised concerns over the safety of household water-heating systems. No official statements have been issued regarding compensation or further action.
