The Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police have arrested a man from Ahmedabad for allegedly stealing data from stock analyst and YouTuber Basant Maheshwari and using it for blackmail. According to the complaint filed at Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police Station, Maheshwari, a resident of Salt Lake, reported that data from his small case was hacked and posted through a Telegram account. Following the leak, he received a call demanding money in exchange for the stolen data, along with threats when he refused to comply.
After tracing digital footprints, the Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police tracked the suspect, identified as Bhat Bhaumik Vipul Kumar, to Ahmedabad. A team conducted a raid and arrested him, bringing him back to Bidhannagar. He was produced before the Bidhannagar court, where police secured custody for further investigation. Officials are now analyzing his digital records to determine the extent of the breach and identify possible collaborators.
Police sources indicate that the investigation is ongoing to uncover whether more individuals were involved in the data theft and extortion. Authorities are also examining the accused’s communication records and online activities to trace any links to a larger network. More arrests could follow based on forensic analysis and interrogation findings.
