Teen molested during BP check at Haroa Hospital; Protests erupt & roads blocked

A teenage girl was allegedly molested by a healthcare worker at Haroa Rural Hospital in North 24 Parganas under the pretext of measuring her blood pressure. According to police sources, the girl was admitted to the hospital on Thursday for treatment. Early Friday morning, a staff member checked her blood pressure and left but returned shortly after. He reportedly called her to another room, where he inappropriately touched her.

When she resisted and screamed, the accused fled. The victim informed her mother, and her family confronted hospital authorities. As news spread, locals gathered outside the hospital demanding strict action against the accused. When the hospital administration did not respond immediately, protests escalated, with agitators blocking roads and setting fires. Police reached the spot to control the situation and detained the accused.

Officers confirmed that an investigation has been launched, and further legal action will follow. No official hospital statement has been released yet. The incident follows a similar case in Diamond Harbour Medical College, raising concerns about hospital safety. Protesters have demanded stricter regulations to prevent such incidents in medical facilities. Authorities have assured legal proceedings and heightened security measures.
