Same EPIC no. found on voter cards from Gujarat and West Bengal

In a significant development, two voters from different states—Gujarat and West Bengal—have been found with identical EPIC numbers, raising concerns over voter list discrepancies. The issue came to light in Balurghat, South Dinajpur, when it was discovered that Shampa Chakraborty, a housewife from Ward No. 4, had the same voter ID number as KT Davis, a resident of Gandhinagar in Gujarat. This has prompted local authorities to investigate the authenticity of voter registration in the region.

Shampa Chakraborty is a voter at the Khudiram Vidyaniketan booth in Balurghat. After discovering the EPIC number duplication, members of the TMC, led by area councilor Nita Nandi, visited the Chakrabortys’ home to inform them of the issue. Prakash Chakraborty, Shampa's husband, who works as a lawyer, expressed surprise upon learning about the duplicate voter ID. The case has raised important questions regarding the accuracy and security of the voter list.

The Election Commission is expected to conduct a thorough investigation into this matter to determine how two individuals from different states could share the same voter ID number. This incident has come at a time when there is increased scrutiny on voter registration processes ahead of upcoming elections. Authorities are likely to take further steps to ensure the integrity of voter identification systems across the country.
