A complaint was filed by a passenger, Devdutt Mukherjee, regarding the sale of expired cold coffee at an IRCTC-authorized shop at Howrah Station. Mukherjee, traveling with his family, purchased a can of cold coffee from a kiosk located on Platform No. 23 before boarding the Howrah-Puri Shatabdi Express. Upon drinking the beverage, he noticed a foul odor, and upon further inspection, he found that the can was expired.
Mukherjee immediately alerted railway authorities to the issue, stating that the product was clearly marked with an expired date. His complaint raised concerns about the quality control measures in place at the retail outlets managed by the IRCTC. The incident, which took place just before his departure, has sparked concerns over food safety at major railway stations.
In response to the complaint, railway officials launched an investigation to determine how the expired product made its way onto the shop’s shelves. Authorities assured that corrective actions would be taken following the inquiry, and further measures would be implemented to ensure that expired or unsafe products are not sold at railway stations.
