A gruesome murder has sent shockwaves through the Srichadra-Buda area of Belsingha No. 2 Gram Panchayat after police recovered a burnt female body from a pile of grass. The investigation led to the arrest of the victim’s husband, Ghulam Ali Sheikh, who allegedly murdered his wife and set her body on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence.
According to police sources, the victim’s family identified her remains by a silver chain around her neck, parts of her red and yellow churidar, and shoes recovered from the scene. The Additional Superintendent of Police (Zonal) Mithun Kumar De confirmed the arrest of Ghulam Ali Sheikh during a press conference on Saturday.
Reports indicate that on Tuesday, Ghulam took his wife from her parental home in Bakrahat on his bike. That same night, he allegedly subjected her to severe physical torture before brutally murdering her. To cover up his crime, he burnt her body in a field, but investigators managed to gather crucial evidence linking him to the murder.
The victim’s father’s family, residing in the Bakrahat area of Bishnupur police station, had been searching for her after she went missing. Their worst fears were confirmed when they recognized the partially burnt clothing and jewelry from the crime scene. This led the police to intensify their probe, eventually leading to Ghulam’s arrest.
Authorities are now conducting further investigations to determine the exact motive behind the murder and whether anyone else was involved in the crime. Forensic teams have also been deployed to examine the burn site for additional evidence.
With this horrifying incident, concerns about domestic violence and crimes against women have resurfaced, sparking demands for stricter action and faster judicial proceedings to ensure justice for the victim. The case has left the local community in shock, with residents demanding stringent punishment for the accused.
