Trinamool hawker union leader attacked with chopper knife in Kolkata factional clash

Factional violence within Trinamool erupted in Kolkata’s Colootola area under Bowbazar police station late Saturday night, where Trinamool Hawker Union leader Shariq Aman was brutally attacked. Reports state that Aman and his supporters were beaten, and he was assaulted with a chopper. The attack allegedly involved the husband of independent Ward 43 councilor Ayesha Naj, along with his associates. The incident has led to heightened tensions in the area, with police yet to make any arrests.

Sources reveal that Aman had been vocal on Facebook about alleged illegal activities linked to the councilor’s husband. Following his posts, he reportedly received multiple threats. Late Saturday evening, a group allegedly led by the accused attacked Aman with sticks before assaulting him with a chopper. He was later admitted to the Medical College for treatment, where he showed his injuries and claimed the attackers intended to throw him off a roof and stage his death as a suicide.

Aman’s father stated that he received threatening phone calls demanding that his son’s videos be deleted. “I was told that if the videos were not removed, the consequences would not be good,” he alleged. The attack has triggered concern among local residents, with reports of growing unrest in the area.

The accused, Irfan Ali, has denied the allegations, claiming that Aman was involved in a kidnapping case and frequently created disturbances. “That is why local people caught him,” Ali stated, adding that he was not present during the attack as he had gone home due to feeling unwell. Police have begun an investigation but have not confirmed any detentions. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
