Fraudsters use Bengal Governor’s name for scams; Raj Bhavan issues warning

Fraudsters are using West Bengal Governor Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose’s name for online scams, prompting Raj Bhavan to issue an official warning. According to Raj Bhavan’s spokesperson, multiple complaints have been received about fake social media accounts and phone calls falsely linked to the Governor. Scammers are reportedly offering fraudulent job opportunities, government benefits, and financial assistance to extract money from unsuspecting individuals. The spokesperson urged the public to remain cautious and immediately report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.

Officials have noted a resurgence of such scams despite previous crackdowns. Reports indicate that fraudsters are using advanced methods, including impersonating government officials, cloning official accounts, and forging documents to appear credible. "If anyone is approached with offers in the Governor’s name, they should immediately inform the police and not engage with the scammers," the spokesperson said. Victims have reported being asked to transfer money in exchange for fake government schemes or assistance.

Raj Bhavan has clarified that the Governor’s office does not seek funds or offer financial assistance through unofficial channels. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and working with cybercrime units to track down those responsible.
