Howrah Railway Police have arrested Shahnaara Begum, the prime accused in the abduction of a three-and-a-half-year-old girl from Howrah Station. The child, taken from the station’s old premises on March 5, remains missing. CCTV footage showed the accused walking through Platform No. 1 with the child, boarding the metro, and later reaching a nearby bus stand. After analyzing the footage, police tracked and arrested Shahnaara Begum last night from her residence in Uluberia’s Kulgachhia, Beltola, and Potopara area. She was produced before Howrah Court today.
Despite the arrest, the child has not been recovered. Preliminary investigations suggest that the girl was sold to a couple in Rajasthan. Officials stated that a police team would be sent to Rajasthan for further action. Authorities are also verifying Shahnaara Begum’s possible connections to trafficking networks. The case has raised concerns over child safety at railway stations, prompting increased surveillance and security measures in the area.
Law enforcement agencies continue efforts to locate the missing child. Further investigations are underway to determine how the accused managed to transport the child unnoticed and whether any accomplices were involved. Police are also examining leads regarding the Rajasthan couple allegedly involved in the transaction.
