Illegal soil dumping in New Town sparks road blockades, cracks appear in homes and mosque

Residents of New Town’s Ghuni and Jatragachhi areas staged a protest late Wednesday night, blocking the Jatragachhi-Shulungdi Road against the movement of soil-laden dumpers. They alleged that illegal soil dumping for a construction project has caused cracks in several houses and the concrete walls of Jatragachhi Paschimpada’s Jama Masjid.

Protesters showcased structural damage and demanded immediate action from authorities. Locals claim that the dumpers are being used to fill a water body, violating environmental regulations and endangering existing structures. Many allege that despite repeated complaints, there has been no intervention.

Protesters insist that the unchecked movement of heavy vehicles at night is worsening the situation. Authorities have assured an investigation into the matter. Residents have called for a complete halt to illegal soil transportation and stricter enforcement of construction norms.
