‘We are taught to support family, how is that unfair?’: Salman’s nephew Ayaan on nepotism

Salman Khan’s nephew Ayaan Agnihotri, who recently launched his song Universal Laws in Dubai, has responded to the nepotism debate surrounding star kids in Bollywood. In an interview with India Today Digital, Ayaan called the term "unfair", saying that the system has always existed in different fields like politics, business, and royal bloodlines.

When asked if he was prepared to face the nepotism tag, Ayaan stated, "Honestly, I don’t care. I know a lot of people stress over it, but I firmly believe it’s something taken out of context. The system has existed since the dawn of time, whether in royal bloodlines, business families, or political dynasties passing the baton. We come from a culture where we are taught to support our own and look after our friends and family. And when you do so, it's called nepotism. How is that fair?" He added that people have begun "misusing the term" and applying it in the wrong way.

Ayaan, who is the son of Atul Agnihotri and Alvira Khan Agnihotri, further admitted that growing up in a family of artists helped him discover his passion for music. "From writers, directors, and producers to actors, fashion designers, and stylists—everyone in the family has explored something in the creative field. So, it's actually very encouraging. I think it's just in my blood," he shared.

The conversation about nepotism also came up during the song launch event in Dubai, where host Kris Fade praised Salman Khan and his family for always standing by Ayaan. In response, Salman jokingly admitted, "That’s what nepotism is!", leaving the audience in laughter. Ayaan, who was standing beside him, also laughed along with the rest of the crowd.

This is not the first time Salman Khan has backed Ayaan’s musical journey. Earlier, the superstar collaborated with him on the song You Are Mine, which was composed by Vishal Mishra and featured rap portions performed by Ayaan himself.

Meanwhile, Salman Khan is gearing up for his upcoming action-packed film, Sikandar, directed by AR Murugadoss and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. The movie, set to release on March 28 (Eid), features Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal, Prateik Babbar, Sharman Joshi, and Sathyaraj in key roles.
