Kolkata Police has heightened security across the city ahead of Ram Navami, following a warning from Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari. Commissioner Manoj Verma confirmed that multiple high-level meetings have been conducted to ensure law and order. Police are closely monitoring the situation, with additional forces deployed in sensitive areas. Patrolling has been increased, and crowd management measures have been put in place. Surveillance through CCTV cameras and drone monitoring is being carried out in key locations.
In response to the ongoing heatwave, Commissioner Verma announced that Kolkata Traffic Police duty hours have been reduced to six hours during summer. At Park Circus Seven Point, 557 traffic police personnel received summer kits containing water bottles, ORS, sunglasses, and umbrellas. Senior officers, including Additional CP D.P. Singh and Additional CP Shubhankar Sinha Sarkar, oversaw the distribution. Verma stated, "The current temperature is reaching nearly 37 degrees Celsius, making it difficult for traffic police on duty. To address this, their duty hours have been adjusted."
Meanwhile, Kolkata Police has issued lookout notices against 69 individuals for alleged involvement in fake passport creation. Some of them have already fled abroad. "Legal action will be taken against those involved," Verma stated. Additionally, regarding the recent Jadavpur incident, he confirmed that one student has been arrested, while several others have been issued notices and will be called for questioning. Investigations into both cases are ongoing.
