On Tuesday night, acting on a tip-off, the Bagdogra police station under Siliguri Metropolitan Police conducted a raid in the Singhijhora area of Bagdogra, located in the Naxalbari block under the Siliguri subdivision. During the operation, the police detained a man and a woman, and upon searching them, brown sugar was recovered. Following this, both individuals were arrested and taken to the police station.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Taslima Khatun and Mohammad Ansarul. Taslima is a resident of Naxalbari, while Ansarul hails from the Phansidewa area. According to sources from Bagdogra police station, 103 grams of brown sugar were recovered from them. The seized contraband was reportedly brought from Malda and was set to be exchanged in Bagdogra. However, police are investigating whether more people are involved in the case.
The two accused will be presented before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Bagdogra police have launched a full-scale investigation into the matter. Siliguri Metropolitan Police have stated that continuous operations will be carried out against drugs to establish a drug-free Siliguri.
