The Baguiati Chawal Patty Kali Temple theft case has been solved after 22 days with the arrest of Rajesh Dey from Rabindranagar in the Chakdaha police station area. Baguiati Police identified the accused after reviewing over 250 CCTV images. DCP Airport Aishwarya Sagar provided details in a press conference at Baguiati Police Station, confirming the breakthrough in the investigation.
The theft involved gold ornaments, which are yet to be recovered. According to police sources, Rajesh Dey allegedly conducted reconnaissance under the pretense of selling clothes and targeted religious sites. Initial interrogation suggests he may have been involved in a 2014 theft at the same temple. Officials are verifying past records and questioning him regarding other similar incidents.
He was presented before Barasat court today, and further legal proceedings are underway. Authorities are continuing efforts to recover the stolen items and are investigating possible connections to other thefts. Security footage played a crucial role in identifying the accused. Officials have urged temple authorities to strengthen security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
