On March 15, a pregnant female lawyer from the Bardhaman District Court was allegedly assaulted by a man posing as a police officer. The incident occurred when the woman was traveling with her husband, sister-in-law, and son-in-law. As they approached the Big Bazaar Ramkrishna Road junction in Bardhaman city, two men on a motorcycle with a police sticker collided with their car. When the lawyer objected to the collision, one of the accused grabbed her by the neck and dragged her out of the car. The man then kicked her in the abdomen.
The assailant claimed to be both a lawyer and a police officer during the confrontation. After the attack, the victim sought immediate medical attention. In response to the incident, the Bardhaman Bar Association organized a pen-down strike at the Bardhaman court on Wednesday, protesting the assault. The association expressed strong condemnation of the attack, demanding swift justice for the victim.
Following the incident, Bardhaman police launched an investigation and arrested the main accused, Rohit Das, from the Shaktigarh area. The police have been working to gather more details about the suspect and his involvement. The incident has raised concerns about law enforcement impersonation and the safety of legal professionals in the area. Authorities have assured a thorough investigation into the matter.
