A couple was found dead in their rented house in Adarshanagar, Garia, on Wednesday night. The deceased, identified as Tarun Das (45) and Asha Das (35), had been living there for six months. Police recovered Tarun’s body hanging from the ceiling, while Asha’s body was found on the bed with strangulation marks and bloodstains. The incident came to light when a family member, after receiving no response to repeated knocks, peeked inside and saw one of them hanging. Neighbors then broke down the door and alerted the police.
According to officials, there were no immediate signs of forced entry or struggle apart from injuries on Asha’s body. The couple had returned home as usual the previous evening, and neighbors reported no unusual behavior. A forensic team was called to examine the scene, and the bodies were sent for post-mortem to determine the exact cause and time of death. Preliminary findings suggest that Asha may have been strangled before Tarun took his own life, but authorities are awaiting the official reports.
The Narendrapur police have launched an investigation and are questioning neighbors, the landlord, and relatives to gather information about the couple’s background. Officials are also checking their financial records, phone call history, and any past police complaints. No suicide note has been found so far. Officers are verifying if there were any personal, financial, or legal issues that could have led to the deaths.
Local sources stated that the couple had been living in the area without any reported disputes or conflicts. “They seemed normal when we saw them yesterday,” said a neighbor. The police are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward as investigations continue. Further details are expected once forensic and post-mortem reports are available.
