A fatal road accident in Malda early this morning claimed the lives of three young men on the national highway near Vaishnavnagar police station, about 18 miles from Malda city. The victims, identified as Sabir Alam (24), Ramzan Sheikh (19), and Sadikatul Islam (20), were residents of Notunpur, Mehrapur, under the Mothabari police station area. According to family sources, Sabir, a migrant worker in Kerala, had returned home for Eid. His two friends went to Farakka station on a bike to pick him up, and while returning, their vehicle was hit by a speeding truck, killing all three on the spot.
Police officials reached the accident site shortly after the crash and initiated an investigation. The truck driver fled the scene, and efforts are underway to track the vehicle. The bodies were sent for post-mortem, and legal procedures are being followed. Initial reports suggest the accident occurred on a busy stretch of the highway where heavy vehicles frequently pass. The authorities are examining CCTV footage from the area to gather more details about the truck involved.
The incident has left the local community in shock, especially as it occurred just days before Eid. Family members of the deceased have demanded strict action against the driver. Road safety concerns have been raised in the region, with locals highlighting the risks posed by high-speed vehicles on the national highway. The police have urged commuters to exercise caution while traveling on busy routes, particularly during festival seasons when traffic movement increases.
