The Calcutta High Court has directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to submit the case diary in the RG Kar case and clarify whether the incident involved gang rape. During the hearing on Monday, Justice Tirthankar Ghosh questioned if only one person was involved, stating, “The CBI must clarify before the court whether this was a case of gang rape or not.” The court noted that one accused has already been convicted but sought further details on possible involvement of others.
The victim’s family, dissatisfied with the investigation, had approached the High Court seeking further inquiry. With Supreme Court approval, the parents of the deceased doctor presented their concerns before Justice Ghosh’s bench last Thursday. The first charge sheet in the case has already been filed, but the family has raised doubts over whether all aspects of the crime were thoroughly investigated. The court took cognizance of their plea and ordered the CBI to submit the case diary for review.
During the hearing, senior advocate Kalyan Banerjee, representing the state, questioned whether further investigation was possible after the trial had concluded. However, the court directed the CBI to ensure transparency in its findings and provide a detailed response. The next hearing is expected to determine the further course of action in the case.
