The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Minority Morcha is launching the “Saugat-e-Modi” campaign, aiming to distribute special kits to 32 lakh underprivileged Muslims across India ahead of the upcoming Eid. The campaign, which will begin in Nizamuddin, Delhi, is set to provide essential items to economically weaker Muslim families to help them celebrate the festival without hardship. The kits will include food items like vermicelli, dates, dry fruits, and sugar, along with clothing such as fabric for women’s suits and kurta-pyjamas for men. The cost of each kit is estimated to be between Rs 500 and Rs 600.
As part of the initiative, 32,000 Minority Morcha workers will collaborate with 32,000 mosques across the country to reach the needy. The BJP aims to ensure the campaign’s wide coverage by working with local religious institutions, providing direct assistance to families in need. The distribution will also include Eid-specific items, making it a significant outreach effort during the holy month of Ramadan and ahead of the Eid festival.
The broader vision of the “Saugat-e-Modi” campaign goes beyond just Ramzan and Eid. Jamal Siddiqui, the National President of the BJP Minority Morcha, emphasized that the campaign will also reach out to communities during other important occasions such as Good Friday, Easter, Nauruz, and the Indian New Year. In addition to the distribution of kits, the BJP Minority Morcha plans to organize Eid Milan celebrations at the district level to further engage with the community.
BJP leaders have stated that the initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,” aiming to provide support to all communities. The party also sees the campaign as part of its broader welfare outreach to Muslim communities across India. Yasir Zilani, National Media In-charge of the BJP Minority Morcha, explained that the initiative is designed to promote the party’s welfare schemes among the Muslim community, while also reinforcing its political outreach.
Despite the campaign’s outreach efforts, opposition parties have raised concerns, particularly in Bihar, where Muslims make up a significant portion of the electorate. Critics argue that the BJP’s move is a political gimmick aimed at securing votes in the state, especially ahead of upcoming elections. However, BJP leaders like Union Minister Chirag Paswan have defended the initiative, stating that it reflects the central government's commitment to inclusive development for all citizens.
