A half-burnt, semi-naked body of a woman was discovered in a field in Harishchandrapur, Amdanga, early Wednesday morning. Local farmers, who had arrived for work, found the body and immediately informed the police. The incident has led to a high-level investigation, with authorities collecting evidence and verifying missing persons' reports from nearby areas.
According to police sources, initial findings suggest that the woman was not a resident of the area. Investigators suspect that she was murdered elsewhere before being dumped in the field, with an attempt made to destroy evidence by burning the body. The remains have been sent for post-mortem at B.N. Basu Hospital in Barrackpore to determine the cause of death and confirm if sexual assault occurred before the murder. A forensic team has been deployed to examine the crime scene.
Police are also reviewing previous incidents in the region, including the February 4 case in Bamangachhi, under Dattapukur police station, where a beheaded body of a man named Hazrat Laskar was found. The investigation into that case revealed that he was allegedly killed by a couple, Jalil and Sophia, over accusations of sexual misconduct. Jalil was arrested in Kashmir while attempting to flee with the severed head. Authorities are analyzing whether there is any connection between the two cases.
Investigators have collected multiple pieces of evidence from the scene and are using police dogs to track potential leads. Officers from Amdanga police station are also coordinating with nearby police jurisdictions to check for any recent missing person reports that could match the victim’s description. No identification documents were found at the scene, and authorities are seeking public assistance in identifying the deceased.
Further investigation is ongoing, with forensic experts analyzing samples recovered from the crime scene. Police have assured that all leads will be thoroughly examined, and efforts are underway to establish the motive and identity of the perpetrators. Anyone with relevant information has been urged to come forward as authorities continue their search for suspects.
