After the body of a young man was found under suspicious circumstances in Bardhaman district, a massive uproar erupted in the area. Angry villagers attacked the police, injuring five police personnel, including Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate’s Deputy Commissioner (East) Abhishek Gupta.
The incident occurred on Thursday when the police received information about the body of a 22-year-old youth named Pallav. As per protocol, the police began the process of sending the body for post-mortem. However, Pallav's family alleged that the police removed the body without informing them. This accusation angered the local residents, leading to widespread vandalism. Some houses and shops were damaged, and motorcycles and bicycles parked on the streets were also destroyed.
As police forces and Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Gupta arrived at the scene to control the situation, the enraged mob started pelting stones at them. Several police personnel were injured, and Gupta sustained a head injury. To bring the situation under control, the police had to resort to lathi charge.
According to local sources, Pallav was allegedly in a relationship with a married woman. On Wednesday night, he had gone to the woman’s house, where her husband caught him and locked him inside a room. On Thursday morning, Pallav's body was found in the same room. The police have launched an investigation into the matter.
