Congress holds ‘Sadbhavna Yatra’ from Nakhoda Masjid to Ram Mandir for peace on Eid & Ram Navami

In an effort to promote communal harmony ahead of Eid and Ram Navami, the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC) organized a ‘Sampriti Padyatra’ in Kolkata on Saturday. The march began from the historic Nakhoda Mosque and concluded at the Ram Temple, symbolizing an appeal for peace and brotherhood across religious communities.

The rally was organized in response to recent violence in Malda, where clashes had raised concerns over communal tensions in the state. Congress leaders emphasized the need for unity, urging people to celebrate the upcoming festivals without any disruption. The initiative aimed to send a strong message against violence and foster a spirit of togetherness.

State Congress President Subhankar Sarkar, senior leader Santosh Pathak, and several other state and local Congress leaders participated in the march. Addressing the gathering, Sarkar said, “West Bengal has always been known for its unity in diversity. Through this march, we urge all communities to come together and celebrate in an atmosphere of peace.”

Participants in the rally carried banners promoting religious harmony, while Congress leaders interacted with locals along the route. The event also saw the presence of social activists and citizens who supported the call for peaceful coexistence. The Congress leaders stressed that political differences should not be allowed to disrupt the state’s long-standing culture of communal amity.

The rally comes at a crucial time when incidents of communal violence have raised security concerns. Congress leaders accused the ruling parties of failing to maintain peace and order, asserting that proactive efforts like the ‘Sadbhavna Yatra’ were necessary to counter divisive narratives. They also urged law enforcement agencies to ensure a safe and secure environment for all religious gatherings.

With the message of peace and unity, the Congress has positioned itself as a champion of communal harmony in Bengal. While political rivals have yet to respond to the march, the initiative has drawn attention to the broader issue of maintaining peace during sensitive festive periods.
