Himachal Pradesh landslide kills six near Manikaran Sahib, several injured

A devastating landslide near Gurdwara Manikaran Sahib in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district claimed the lives of six people on Sunday evening, leaving several others injured. The incident occurred around 5 PM when a massive tree, carried by debris, toppled onto people sitting along the roadside. The victims included three women, a roadside hawker, a car occupant, and three tourists present at the location. The injured have been rushed to Jari Hospital for treatment.

The landslide triggered widespread panic in the area, with onlookers witnessing the sudden collapse of a tree along with boulders and mud. Rescue teams, including police and fire department personnel, swiftly arrived at the scene to clear debris and provide emergency aid. A team from the local revenue department is also on-site to assess the damage and assist authorities in relief operations.

Additional District Magistrate of Kullu, Ashwani Kumar, confirmed that six people had lost their lives while several others sustained injuries. A police team led by SHO Manikaran is overseeing the rescue operations. Officials are working to verify the identities of the deceased and ensure medical care for the injured.

Eyewitnesses reported that the landslide struck suddenly, giving little time for those in the area to escape. The region, known for its frequent landslides due to steep terrain and unpredictable weather, has seen similar incidents in the past. Authorities are investigating whether recent rainfall or construction activity contributed to the disaster.
