As every year, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee attended the Eid prayers at Red Road on Monday morning. The event, which saw a large gathering of worshippers, also became a platform for the Chief Minister to deliver a sharp political message, warning people against "divisive forces" ahead of the upcoming elections.
Arriving at 9 AM, Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee greeted the people and extended their Eid wishes. Addressing the crowd, Mamata Banerjee cautioned against political provocation, stating, "One party indulges in divisive politics, but we must uphold harmony. Do not be provoked by anyone." She accused certain forces of "profiting in the name of religion" and vowed that such tactics would not succeed in Bengal.
Mamata Banerjee also took a swipe at both the BJP and the Left, alleging that they were working together behind the scenes. "The red and saffron forces have merged. But rest assured, we will not let any harm come to you," she asserted. She repeatedly urged people to remain vigilant and not fall for incitement or political manipulation.
Abhishek Banerjee echoed a similar sentiment, emphasizing the need for unity and communal harmony. He declared, "The moon has no religion." Stressing the importance of standing together, he said, "We must remain united till our last breath." Directing a strong message at the BJP, he added, "I will give my life, but I will not deviate from my ideals."
After the Eid gathering at Red Road, both Mamata and Abhishek Banerjee proceeded to Park Circus, a prominent Muslim-majority area in Kolkata. They walked through the Lal Masjid and Sada Masjid localities, interacting with residents and further extending their Eid greetings.
