Ram Navami in Bengal: 10 cities declared sensitive, 29 IPS officers deployed, drones & social media surveillance

Ahead of Ram Navami, West Bengal Police has intensified security measures across the state. Ten cities — Islampur, Cooch Behar, Malda, Howrah Rural, Siliguri, Chandannagar, Barrackpore, Asansol, Raniganj, and Jamuria — have been declared sensitive. A total of 29 IPS officers have been assigned to oversee law and order in these regions and will remain deployed until April 7.

Surveillance has been strengthened through drones and body-worn cameras. Quick Action Teams have been mobilized for immediate response. Lalbazar has directed all police stations and divisional DROs to remain on constant alert. Kolkata’s major crossings are under increased CCTV monitoring, with control rooms tracking movement in real time.

To curb misinformation, special teams have been formed to monitor social media platforms. Any post or profile found spreading rumours or provocative content will face immediate action, according to instructions issued by the police. The measures are aimed at maintaining law and order during religious processions and gatherings.
