Sukanta Majumdar slams Mamata Govt, alleges Hindus treated as ‘second-class citizens’ amid Ram Navami security

Union Minister and West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar on Sunday accused the Mamata Banerjee-led state government of discriminating against Hindus during religious celebrations. Speaking during Ram Navami, Majumdar said that Hindus have become “second-class citizens” in Bengal and alleged that they are being forced to approach courts to celebrate their festivals. He cited last year’s violence during Ram Navami in Howrah, claiming the attacks were “pre-planned” as they occurred just 300 metres from the city police office.

Majumdar questioned the large-scale deployment of security forces during this year’s Ram Navami celebrations. According to him, five IAS officers were assigned and a heavy police force was deployed in multiple locations across the state. He asked why such strict security measures were needed despite Hindus comprising 70 percent of West Bengal’s population. “Hindus are still 70 per cent in Bengal, but why do [we] need this much of security to celebrate Ram Navami. This shows that something is wrong,” he said.

The comments were made amid heightened security arrangements across the state to maintain law and order during Ram Navami. Police deployment was reported in areas such as Howrah and other sensitive regions. The state administration has stationed senior officials to oversee the situation and has appealed to the public to maintain peace and communal harmony during the festivities.
