Students march to WB Madrasa Board demanding recognition for 497 schools, staff appointments & tech access

The Student Front West Bengal State Committee held a rally on Monday demanding reforms in the state's madrasa education system. The protest began from Salt Lake’s Central Park Metro Station and moved towards the West Bengal Madrasa Education Board. Protesters were stopped by police before reaching the board office. Following this, they staged a demonstration at the spot. A delegation later submitted a memorandum outlining their demands to the authorities.

The demands included immediate recognition of 497 educational institutions under the Madrasa Department, specifically MSKs (Madhyamik Shiksha Kendras) and SSKs (Sishu Shiksha Kendras), which have been operating without board affiliation. The student group also called for the recruitment of teachers and academic staff to fill vacancies across madrasas in the state. Another demand was the activation of the West Bengal Madrasa Education Board’s official landline number for public communication.

Additionally, the protestors referred to a previous DLIT (District Level Implementation Team) announcement and demanded approval for 680 madrasas. They also stressed the need for introducing computer education in all government-funded madrasas. No public response has been issued by the authorities regarding the submitted memorandum or the demands raised during the protest.
