Panic gripped parts of Delhi on Thursday morning after the iconic Red Fort and Jama Masjid received bomb threat calls. Security agencies, including Delhi Police and fire services, rushed to the locations immediately and conducted detailed checks. Authorities later confirmed that no suspicious items were found, and the call was classified as a hoax.
According to Delhi Fire Services, the call was received around 9:03 AM, claiming there was a bomb in the premises of the two historic monuments. Acting swiftly, a fire tender and bomb disposal teams were dispatched to both sites. CISF personnel also joined the search operation.
“We rushed one fire tender to the site and conducted thorough searches. However, nothing suspicious was found at either Red Fort or Jama Masjid,” a fire services official said.
Delhi Police released a statement confirming that bomb disposal squads and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) combed the entire areas. "The call turned out to be a hoax, but all standard operating procedures were followed to ensure public safety," the statement read.
Despite the alarm, both monuments resumed normal activity after the checks were completed. Authorities have launched an investigation to trace the origin of the call and identify the individual responsible for the prank.
In recent months, several hoax bomb threats have been reported at public places across India, raising concerns over misuse of emergency services and the psychological impact on citizens. Police have urged the public to refrain from making such false calls and warned of strict legal action.
