The political atmosphere in West Bengal has turned increasingly volatile following widespread violence triggered by protests against the Waqf Act. Amid this unrest, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari has launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her government of turning a blind eye to lawlessness across the state.
Adhikari highlighted the deteriorating situation, stating that private properties were being torched, public transport was vandalized, and both road and rail traffic had come to a standstill. He also pointed out that several police personnel were injured in the clashes, yet the state government remained a mute spectator. “When the streets of Bengal are burning, the Chief Minister is watching in silence,” he said.
Calling for immediate action, Suvendu demanded that an NIA (National Investigation Agency) investigation be ordered into the violence that gripped Murshidabad, one of the worst-hit regions during the unrest. He insisted that the matter was beyond the state’s capacity to handle fairly and needed central intervention to bring out the truth.
The remarks have added fuel to the political fire already raging in the state, as BJP continues to accuse the Trinamool Congress government of appeasement and inaction, while TMC leaders have defended their response, claiming efforts are underway to restore normalcy. Meanwhile, the situation in violence-hit zones remains tense, with enhanced security deployment on ground.
