Family of five dead as car falls into river in Uttarakhand’s Devprayag

A heartbreaking road accident occurred in Uttarakhand’s Devprayag on Saturday, where five members of a family lost their lives after their car plunged into a river gorge in the Tehri district. The accident took place when the vehicle reportedly veered off the road and tumbled down a steep slope into the river below.

According to officials, the car was carrying six people at the time of the crash. While five of the occupants died on the spot, a woman was miraculously pulled out alive from the wreckage. She was rushed to a nearby hospital and is currently undergoing treatment, still in a state of trauma.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) launched an urgent rescue operation, deploying cranes and heavy machinery to retrieve the mangled car from the river. Due to the difficult terrain and depth of the gorge, the operation lasted several hours. Authorities confirmed that all bodies trapped under the vehicle were successfully recovered.

Police believe that the victims were all from the same family. Preliminary findings suggest that the driver may have lost control of the car due to speeding, though the exact cause of the accident remains under investigation. A pall of gloom has settled over the area as grieving locals gathered near the accident site, while relatives of the deceased began arriving for identification and postmortem formalities.
