A chilling murder rocked the Loharpada area near Hooghly station late Saturday night, when a young man, identified as Sanjay Rajbangshi, was found dead in front of his house with multiple stab wounds. The brutal killing has sparked fear and speculation in the locality.
According to local residents, Sanjay had left home in the evening to attend a puja and eat prasad. However, around 1 AM, loud noises and screams from outside startled the neighborhood. When people rushed out, they found Sanjay lying in a pool of blood, stabbed in the neck and head.
He was immediately taken to Chunchura Imambara Hospital in a critical state. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival. The scene of the crime was quickly sealed off, and a police picket has now been posted to prevent further unrest.
What adds a twist to the murder is the victim’s past. Sanjay was reportedly an accused in a 2019 murder case. After serving jail time, he had been living with his sister in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. Recently, he returned to Hooghly and began driving a Toto (e-rickshaw) for a living.
Police from Chunchura Police Station have started an investigation, but so far, no arrests have been made. Officers say it is still unclear whether the murder was carried out by a single assailant or a group. Locals remain tight-lipped, and fear of retaliation looms over the area.
Senior officials are expected to visit the scene for a high-level review. Meanwhile, police are scanning CCTV footage and questioning close contacts of the deceased. Whether this murder is linked to his past criminal record or personal enmity remains a key question for investigators.
