The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organized a Hindu Bachao rally in Kolkata on Saturday in protest against the recent violence in Shamsherganj. The rally began from the historic residence of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and concluded at the house of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, two prominent icons of Indian history.
BJP leaders participating in the march accused the Bengal government of being "anti-Hindu" and responsible for the communal unrest witnessed in several parts of the state. According to them, the situation in Bengal has deteriorated due to political appeasement, leading to repeated outbreaks of violence targeting the Hindu community.
During the rally, BJP state leaders delivered fiery speeches, asserting that law and order in Bengal had collapsed under the current regime. They alleged that Hindus were feeling increasingly unsafe and demanded immediate intervention from the central government to restore peace.
Large numbers of BJP supporters, waving saffron flags and chanting slogans, participated in the procession. Security was tightened in key areas of the city to prevent any untoward incident during the rally.
The rally comes at a time when tensions are already high following incidents of rioting and arson in Shamsherganj earlier this week. The BJP has also called for a broader statewide campaign to highlight the alleged targeting of Hindus in Bengal.
Party leaders said they would continue raising the issue at both state and national levels, warning that if corrective action was not taken soon, protests would intensify in the coming weeks.
